From: R.O.C.K. (Responsible Organization of Chatham-Kent)
To: VOCO & VCTC:
Congratulations on your first success – having a referendum on your Municipal Ballot. We are waiting for November 10th to offer congratulations again, on your second phase – a YES vote. We know that your project will restore Victoria County to its rightful place. Thanks for the leadership and direction in helping us prepare for our own referendum, YES vote and return to a democratically organized municipal structure.
To the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing:
Because our amalgamation has produced a fiscally financial fiasco…
Because we have lost our sense of community identity…
Because our municipality is too large, geographically, and too diverse in its social-economic structure to function as a single community…
Because the amalgamation has met virtually none of its promises…
Because the Provincial Conservative government has prudently abandoned it impetuous and poorly-conceived amalgamation plans…
Because our citizens had no democratic input into the organization of their municipal structure(s)…
…we believe that, like the "former Victoria County", we deserve a similar referendum on the November 2003 Municipal Ballot, in order to let citizens determine the community in which they live and work. To that end, we WILL be in contact with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing in the near future.
