RE: Gerretsen's "NO" to City of Kawartha Lakes Deamalgamation
In the last provinincial election I cast my vote for the Liberal candidate
in this riding based solely on Dalton McGuinty's promise to abide by results
of the deamalgamation referendum. Although generally a supporter of the
PC's, the Harris government's handling of the amalgamation of the former
Victoria County cost them my vote. I guess I was fool to think that, once
in power, a Liberal government would behave any differently... or live up to
its promises.
Messrs. McGuinty & Gerretson, your decision to ignore a clear majority vote
by the citizens of this municipality, in spite of your campaign promises,
has shown that you are no different than your predecessors. You are proof
of the old joke "How can you tell when a politician is lying?... His lips
are moving." But what is worse, much worse, is that you have spit in face
of democracy. You have ignored the clearly expressed will of the majority
in this referendum. And you have left a lot of citizens even more
disillusioned and distrustful of government and the political process.
Quite simply, you should be ashamed.
Attached is a copy of a letter to the editor of "Kawartha Lakes This Week".
Not that I expect it to do much good, but the least we can do is point out
the liars and hypocrites for what they are.
Sincerely,
TJ Wood
